The Quay: Illegal Brothel thriving in $300million Apartments

    http://www.news.com.au/finance/real-...07694d9a8ce4fc

    Has anyone read this article....

From which businesses? From my research, it seems to be SydTopClub, same girls on wechat and Line. Does anyone know more or others?

Once you have read the article, can someone (legal eagle) elaborate on the legalities of this business if its a 141 or 241? Huh huh?
Is the headline an attention grabber.... coz the writer concedes that it might not be illegal? Nonetheless, the article is poorly written!!! and poorly researched?

I don't think it's illegal, however the owners and strata will be all over and can't really blame them. No one would want that in the building they've invested in or even worse, where they live.

Why would there be "used condoms in the lifts"? Do the customers take them out of the rooms as souvenirs, then throw them away?

And how much space does a couple of condoms, or an empty box, add to a garbage bin

This is a story the media run every few weeks.
It's a typical "moral panic" story and a sexual titillation story and so is guaranteed to always get lots of views and so increases advertising revenue.
The media feigns moral outrage while at the same time pandering to the public's thirst for sexy stories.
We all know that most apartment blocks in the CBD have sex workers working out of them.
When they get evicted they just move on to another building.

Probably not illegal per se, but may breach the Strata regulations in terms of conducting a commercial business in the premises.

    Is it only sex work?

Cuz if u were to open a at home consultation business would that be a problem? Is say people would likely turn a blind eye - it's cuz it's sex work - which tends to attract (societal biases) unsavoury characters.

People do all sorts of things they shouldn't in residential apartments.
Run escort services, sub let, cram 10 people into a 1 bedroom apartment, short term partying by tourists, lease on Airbnb etc.
Thats just the reality of apartment blocks.

I think anyone saying its ok to have brothels inside a residential building would immediately change their view if it was to happen where they live, especially if they have kids.
