age verification on social media

Surprised I have not seen any comments on here (or have I missed them?) regarding the Government pushing through age verification for social media which would include sites such as this. What it would mean is everyone using this and other social media sites having to provide ID to verify they are over 16 years of age.

Just a token gesture from the government so they look like they are doing something. 99% of kids under 16 would know how to circumvent the age restrictions by using a VPN, as VFlowers alluded to.

Put the onus back on the parents and if they want to give their kids a phone then install software on it to allow them to monitor or restrict what they are doing with it.
