Backing up and informing him that assault is illegal gave him all the confidence he needed to beat your ass. You don't need to be tough to win fights, you only need to be tougher than your opponent. Your actions basically showed him you are bottom of the food chain. More often than not standing your ground and showing no fear is enough to make your attacker think twice about escalating.
Next you don't let someone close you down while you still recording. You disabled yourself by holding the phone in your hand. Sure its great to have video evidence to press charges but that's not very helpful if they put your head into a wall and now you have permanent brain damage. Never let someone get that close and not be ready to fight.
Your other survival option, if you have no chance of winning was simply to run away. Sure you lose all your dignity and self respect but at least you leave unscathed and only that stranger knows you are a coward. There was nothing backing you into a corner forcing you to fight.

That video doesn't show the actual incident you guys are talking about. All it shows is you being a dickhead and baiting the guy into an argument and eventually into smacking you. I agree he shouldn't have done it. He came after you etc but I'd delete this. If it goes to court I think the judge might say you provoked him based on this.
