Business records from Liaisons brothel in Sydney show that in the nine months between the deaths of the two women the neurosurgeon spent more than $120,000 on drugs and sex workers.

Its a business and like any business they should keep records and they should pay taxes?
How much records and how much taxes they pay seems to be the question.
I think the records they keep relate more to the girls than the punters after all we only ever give our Christian name! Unless we use a credit card that is.
Another reason I never pay by credit card, the other is a friend of mine paid by credit card is accountant dated one of his wife's friends and let the cat out of the bag.
Got him a divorce!

I've read articles in papers/magazines about other top end shops having customer details on file.

Dude this guy was a big fish - a high net worth individual. For some reason I do not think shops would invest the same amount of time tracking your visits (lobsters notwithstanding)
Put another way - imagine a casino. This guy was a professional gambler in the VIP room. You are the old blue haired pensioner with a fit full of dollar coins on the poker machine!

They don't have much to use to track us if we use cash and just a first name to identify ourselves.

Yes especially if your punting names are like the MLs and WLs names.
It is hard to track down Cici or Coco or Lucy or Tiffany or Rainbow or Lulu etc when you don't have a phone number to start with!!
Im sure that punter James is really Fred, and that punter Lungor is really a Bruce or Cecil or similar!!
I know certain shops maintain detailed timesheets for every girl. I guess this is to ensure the girls are paid appropriately at the end of their shift. It wouldn't be a stretch if they recorded punter names against each session for regulars, or flag the session as a walk-in for unknown. Such information would have to be retained for accounting purposes for a minimum of five years so I am not surprised at all if a properly managed establishment is able to reliably determine the amount of money spent by a regular punter.

Bookings can be made via phone, and this allows you to be tracked if needed.

The Dr was using his credit card so they new who he was and he was getting out calls to his unit so they obviously had no trouble knowing who he is or was and when he visited the shop.
Most shops have your phone number if your a regular so even though they may not have your actual name you can be tracked if the cops etc want to know who you are.
