A (Sydney) man who brought a torture kit to a hotel room to brutally attack a sex worker with a hammer will spend the next seven years behind bars. Donaldson brought a hammer, knife and ball gag to the room, cut off the women's underwear and got into an argument about the moralities of people selling their bodies for sex before launching into a "crazy frenzy" and attacking her with the hammer.

I wonder how much "mental issues" he could have when he had the capacity to book a 5-star hotel room, an escort, pack a bag of torture porn shit, and flee the scene after the deed?

The justice system, not just in Australia, places too much power into the hands of judges, I reckon. The whole system works diligently on everything during a case, everything is done by the book, only for the final judgement to be handed down by a single person based on arbitrary criteria.

If only there was a mechanism that could make a judge pause for thought and tell him "your Honour, before you hand down that sentence, have a look at how it would look like in the headlines. Are you sure you want to do this?". Maybe then they'll realise how stupid it looks like on paper.

Just read the article - an appalling crime - the reality is that you don't know anyone as well as what you think - and many people don't know themselves as well as they think.

How do you ever release a person like this back into the community? You can only imagine the level of retribution in jail.

I am wondering if this had to do anything with his religious beliefs? In one paragraph the story refers to this lunatic giving a lecture on selling body for sex is wrong. just curious to know if he started a bit of preaching with bible in his hands too?
